THE
ITALIAN
HAVE
Frederik Ernst's "Italian Garden" is a courtyard in the middle of Museum ERNST, a green oasis surrounded by the former factory buildings andthe manufacturer's private residence. On the eastern wing, facing the garden, the latrine doors are a testament to a time when workers also worked here. In the past, there was also a back house in the garden that was converted into a living room for the factory employees.

We know the garden in its current Italian-inspired design with a centrally located pool and Roman-style garden sculptures from photos from the 1960s. The sculptures were made at Stukkatur og Kunststensfabrik; Lamberg Petersens eftf, Peter Ove Christensen, Glentevej 69 in Copenhagen.
The sculptures include "Music" and "Science" and the fountain figure "Leda and the Swan".

Before the Italian-inspired garden was laid out by Frederik Ernst, a gazebo adorned the northern end of the garden.
At Museum Vestfyn, the garden underwent a restoration in 2016. With the help of photos from the 1960s, the garden was brought back to the look Frederik Ernst had created.

In the garden, depending on the season, you can experience historic large-flowered roses such as Hanne, Super Star, Pascali and Peace, while the garden's trellis is adorned with creepers Flammentanz, Gloire Dijon, Madame Alfred Carriere and New Dawn.
