Who was Frederik Ernst?

Frederik Ernst’s life story is complex and full of surprises. Among other things, he was a manufacturer, a collector, and an honorary citizen—but he was also a gay man living in a provincial town in the early 1900s.

In this lecture, Tea Dahl Christensen—museum curator, Ph.D., and editor of the new book *Queer in the Provinces*—offers a historical perspective on current topics such as sexuality and identity, all grounded in local history.

In the first half of the lecture, Tea Dahl Christensen takes us into Frederik Ernst’s world, and after a break for coffee and cake, Frederik Ernst’s story is woven into a broader narrative about being queer in the provinces.
