QUEER IN THE PROVINCES – workshop & museum visit
What is it like to be queer in a rural area—and how can we work together to create a safer, more visible, and happier environment for LGBT+ youth on Funen?
In collaboration with LGBT+ Denmark, Museum ERNST invites you to a special evening where we will both explore history and address today’s challenges and opportunities.
Many young LGBT+ people feel they have to move to larger cities to be themselves. But it doesn’t have to be that way. That’s why we’re bringing together young people from all over Funen for an evening where we’ll explore how we can strengthen our communities, create a sense of safety, and build our capacity to take action—right here, where we live.
What can you expect?
In the museum’s unique setting, we’ll gain a rare insight into Frederik Ernst’s life and strategies as a queer person in provincial life. Along the way, we’ll hear your perspectives on the museum’s exhibition—and how history can be actively applied in the present day.
The workshop is open to all young people on Funen between the ages of 16 and 30. If you’re over 30, you’re still very welcome to participate and share your experiences about what you felt was missing when you were young. Both LGBT+ individuals and allies can participate. Allies will gain insight into the experiences of LGBT+ youth, while young LGBT+ individuals are invited to join the conversation about how we can bring about concrete local change.
The event will take place on Thursday, June 11, at Museum ERNST, Østergade 57, 5610 Assens. Admission is free—and open to all young people on Funen. We will serve a light dinner.
