Lecture – Queer in the provinces
Most people are familiar with the stereotypical narrative: if you are homosexual and grew up in the provinces, you must move to Copenhagen in order to live freely and authentically.
In this lecture, museum curator, PhD, and editor of the new book Queer i provinsen(Queer in the Province), Tea Dahl Christensen, challenges this notion based on the latest LGBTQ+ historical research. Using examples from the book's 11 chapters—written by some of the country's leading gender researchers—she zooms in on queer life outside the big city. Here, queer love, desire, and gender transgression have unfolded in different ways and at different rhythms than in the capital.
Tea Dahl Christensen herself has contributed to the book with a chapter about the local silverware manufacturer Frederik Ernst. This evening, his story will receive special attention.
